The National 2010

North Yorkshire

National Show and Prize Winners

4th July 2010

This year's show attracted 36 cars down the winding track to Levisham Station.  The North Yorkshire Moor Railway had given us almost their entire car park, which lays alongside the station and sidings of a beautiful 1920s style station.  On the far side of the station lay the Station Masters house and a large grassy area which the railway had put up a sizeable marquee for our prize giving.

Early doors

The railway had donated footplate rides for raffle winners and had offered their normal rail tickets at half price.  So that our members could enjoy these treats, we started both the judging and prize giving earlier than in previous years.  As ever there seemed to be more Mk1s than any other model.  A number of local cars not previously seen at a National came out, some earning prizes - you never know what is going to turn up to the National.

During the day we sold charity raffle tickets, with the prize being a ride up the line on a steam train - on the footplate with the driver and fireman.  Overall we raised in excess £80, this was split - half to the North Yorkshire Moors railway and half to Help for Heroes.  This is the Station Master receiving his half of the funds raised.  He was wearing the high-vis outfit because he had spent the day working on the trackside.

The Winners

Shown below are all the winners with their cars, all well deserved and demonstrating the continual improvements year on year of individual cars and the overall stock of cars.  If you click on any picture it will blow up larger.  If you are a prize winner and would like an even higher resolution version email me and I'll send back a much more detailed version.

Just a note on why there are two Runner Up Mk2s, at the time of the show we added up the scores and made a mistake in the sums, announcing only one winner.  After the award presentation a recount revealed that there was a tie for runner up and an additional prize was awarded.
